You Don’t Have to Go it Alone.
No one takes a course in Industrial Security in high school… Was this your schedule in 10th grade: English, Algebra, History, a Foreign Language, and of course Industrial Security? Additionally, no one is taught how the Department of War mitigates Foreign Ownership, Control, or Influence (FOCI) in college. Maybe if you were an O-6 at a war college you may have had an hour of instruction on the National Industrial Security Program (NISP). Additionally, unless you are potentially pre-law, or received your JD, you probably did not learn the differences between LLCs, LPs, corporations, etc. It’s not your fault if you are learning through the school of hard knocks.
There are resources out there for you. DCSA’s Center for Development of Security Excellence (CDSE) has Facility Security Officer (FSO) training. NCMS has the ISP certification, local chapter and national meetings, training, and their mentoring program. But, as with everything, there are nuances, shortcuts, best practices, and methods to the madness. Sometimes you need just a little help to navigate those waters.
